MAIN THREAD: SWEETS AND GENERAL DISCUSSION

Image
So the topic for this week is simple.  Sweets. I love sweets. Probably too much, because I'm always buying candy and desserts.  I'm sure I'd shave off a few pounds if I'd lower my intake of sweets.  Anywho......  There is such an endless array of sweet treats all over the globe. Cakes, pies, pastries of all kinds, candies, syrups, ice creams, spreads, you name it.  It's even a common staple of breakfast as you can get pancakes and waffles with all types of sweet toppings, crepes, cinnamon rolls, French toast, donuts, pastries, etc. I love cake. You show me a free cake and I'm gonna be making sure I get a piece. The frosting is my favorite part, and I have to have ample amounts of it on my cake.  Pies are not as high as cake on my list, but I love them just the same, too.  There are times when a good piece of pie just hits the right spot.  Different countries have different types and "taste levels" of candy.  For example, the US has been known to be sub

OLD THREAD: THIS IS HALLOWEEN! AND ALL GENERAL DISCUSSION

Image
So.... it's the spooky season, and we're gonna make that the general thread topic of the week. Always remember, this is just a general topic suggestion and it's not set in stone. Talk about what you will. Ghosts, skeletons, bats, vampires, witches, and all manner of spooky entities take center stage.  Horror movies and scary stories, Jack o lanterns and haunted houses.  And you can't forget the partiers, those people who dress up in costumes and use them as an excuse to excessively drink, dress like sloots, and generally act nutty. I'll even throw in a little bit of history courtesy of https://www.history.com/topics/halloween/history-of-halloween.  "Halloween is a holiday celebrated each year on October 31, and Halloween 2024 will occur on Thursday, October 31. The tradition originated with the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, when people would light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off ghosts. In the eighth century, Pope Gregory III designated November

Presidential Election Predictions thread

So, we're gonna have a little fun with the election and post a predictions thread for em. Plus we'll be crowning a PiTG Election Champion.  Book came up with the idea, and Pi$$y helped me fix up the title belt.  Teamwork makes the dream work. This'll be for who "officially" wins the state, so all you have to do is type in Trump or Harris.  If you add a percentage after the name (to predict by what percentage he or it won that state) and get it right, you'll get an extra point but it's not required to do so.   There will also be a question about what overall percentage of the popular vote each candidate gets at the end of the election.  Alabama Alaska Arizona Arkansas California Colorado Connecticut Delaware Florida Georgia Hawaii Idaho Illinois Indiana Iowa Kansas Kentucky Louisiana Maine Maryland Massachusetts Michigan Minnesota Mississippi Missouri Montana Nebraska Nevada New Hampshire New Jersey New Mexico New York North Carolina North Dakota Ohio Okla

OLD THREAD: Sports and all manner of general discussion.

Image
So this week I figured I'd just go ahead and get it over with, the topic of sports.  One thread, in general.  Sorry handegg obsessed, it don't get it's own thread.  Maybe for the Super Bowl.  Maybe.  Always remember, this is just a general topic suggestion and it's not set in stone.  Talk about what you will.  Sports are a major obsession for many.  Some people are content to simply watch the game and cheer on their team(s), some go a little farther and gamble on games and/or play fantasy versions of the games, while others go to the extreme and fight, attack players verbally and on social media, burn objects, riot, and so forth.  Sounds crazy, but hey, we have liberals doing the same over hats and pronouns, so wha' do I know? I used to watch (American) football (handegg) and collect sports cards when I was younger.  That was in the mid to late 80s. It was partly because of friends I knew being into it, but I'm glad I got into it then, too, because that was a p

OLD THREAD: Books! And, of course, general discussion

Image
So the conversation direction led me to this week's general topic of books. Reminder: this is just the general blog topic.  Discuss anything else in the room as well.  With that little piece of business (oh noez, a certain lurker hates when I use that term... 😆) out of the way, on to the subject at hand. The importance of books really doesn't need much explanation. Whether it be works of fiction, informative, true life, whatever, the written word has been a staple of civilization and history for millenia, no matter the medium (tablets, scrolls, etc). Why, even at a young age we're taught (or used to be taught) the values of reading.  I used to read a lot more than I do now, but I still like to grab a good book from time to time. I also have a nice collection of tomes to dig into when the urge arises.  I also like to peruse magazines and comic books. One genre that I'm into is, naturally, pro wrestling autobiographies. Listening to the journey a certain person has went

OLD THREAD: Classic Cars and General Discussion

Image
Another week of conversation goodness is upon us, and for our old buddy Greg (or in memoriam, whichever the case may be) I'm doing a post about classic cars.  As always, this is a general topic of discussion, chat about whatever in the comment thread. I've always loved the visuals of classic cars, even though I'm not a full blown gearhead.  They definitely had a style and look that you don't get with today's generic looking vehicles. Sure, you may get an outlier or two, like the Hummer, Toyota FJ Cruiser, the New Bronco, those ridiculous looking Scion xBs and Nissan Cubes, PT Cruiser, Chevy HHR, that sort of thing, but even those have a streamlined look as well. Gone are the days of big pointy fins and rocket taillights, t tops, vent windows, hood ornaments, sealed beam headlights, door rub strips and wood side panels, etc. Now almost everything you see looks basically the same, with minor tweaks between manufacturers. Some modern features are nicer, such as power
