OLD THREAD: Sports and all manner of general discussion.

So this week I figured I'd just go ahead and get it over with, the topic of sports.  One thread, in general.  Sorry handegg obsessed, it don't get it's own thread.  Maybe for the Super Bowl.  Maybe.

Always remember, this is just a general topic suggestion and it's not set in stone.  Talk about what you will.

Sports are a major obsession for many.  Some people are content to simply watch the game and cheer on their team(s), some go a little farther and gamble on games and/or play fantasy versions of the games, while others go to the extreme and fight, attack players verbally and on social media, burn objects, riot, and so forth.  Sounds crazy, but hey, we have liberals doing the same over hats and pronouns, so wha' do I know?

I used to watch (American) football (handegg) and collect sports cards when I was younger.  That was in the mid to late 80s. It was partly because of friends I knew being into it, but I'm glad I got into it then, too, because that was a pretty great era for the sport. There were so many notable players from Marino to Montana to Moon to Monk to Payton. My favorite team of all time is the '85 Bears (Daaa Bearss). That was a pretty memorable team, even to this day.

In the 90s I'd switched over to basketball, and even though I was born right outside of Chicago, and the Bulls were on fire with Jordan, Pippen, and Rodman, I was a die hard Phoenix Suns fan. Maybe it was partly to do with the underdog status of the team compared to the Bulls, but I just liked their dynamic at the time. Barkley, Majerle, Chambers, Rambis, KJ Kevin Johnson. Wasn't that big on Danny Ainge, but he had his moments.

I watched a little baseball, namely the Sammy Sosa era, but I prefer seeing that live.  Watched a little NASCAR at one time, but couldn't get into it. Tried to get into hockey, but never did.  I liked watching John McEnroe go off on people in the clips on the news. I preferred Holyfield to Tyson. I've recently watched a game or two of futbol/soccer mainly because of my recent interest in mucking about on the premier fantasy league.

There are so many different kinds of sports, from polo to rugby to golf to swimming to wrestling to boxing to billiards (I love to shoot pool), it's just not feasible to name them all.

What are your favorite sports, teams, eras, players, etc.?  Do you have any interests outside of the mainstream sports?
