MAIN THREAD: Serial Killers and General Discussion

So this week we're gonna dive into the disturbing world of serial killers.

I'm not a serial killer "buff" by any means, but I do get into true crime, and I do watch some documentaries about them to see how twisted some people can actually be.

I don't praise them or get infatuated with them like some weirdos out there do, like those chicks that write to them in prison wanting to marry them, or fanboys who obsess over them like they're some kind of role models, and sick crap like that.  Buncha disturbed, warped nutters.

Regardless, they have gained a sort of "notoriety", and their cases have drummed up continued interest over the years.  Cannibalism, murder, rape, torture, confinement, abduction, you name it, all have been committed by one serial killer or another.

Some of the more infamous are Jeffrey Dahmer, John Wayne Gacy, Charles Manson, Ed Gein, the Zodiac Killer, the "Night Stalker" Richard Ramirez, and the Green River Killer Gary Ridgway, among many others.

Of course one of the first of note, and the subject of many a movie, documentary, and case study is the mysterious London serial killer, Jack the Ripper.

There's a newer claim by one author, as of Oct. 2024, that DNA has allegedly finally solved the identity of the Ripper.  Here's an article about it: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.cornwalllive.com/news/uk-world-news/jack-ripper-identified-aaron-kosminski-9611598.amp

Their crimes were heinous, and also many. But there are many more serial killers out there. Maybe not as well known as others, but their crimes are just as terrible.

Which serial killer cases caught your attention and why?  What are some regional, or lesser known ones, that you've read or heard about?  Discuss this macabre subject, and all other topics, in this here thread.
