OLD THREAD: War movies and general discussion
So this week we're gonna chat a bit about war movies. I'll be focusing on U.S. War movies, but feel free to enlighten us with some good international (to 'Muricans) flicks.
To be honest, I haven't watched many war movies outside of Vietnam War ones. Idk why I'm drawn to that one in particular, but I am. Maybe it's the less industrial nature of it, the "earthier", more personal feel; it's hard to pinpoint or describe. But I do know that when it comes to war movies tanks, missles, and fighter planes aren't my cup of tea.
So I'll point out the obvious two right at the beginning. Platoon and Full Metal Jacket. Just really, really emotional movies that are classics of the Vietnam War genre.
There are also many others, such as We Were Soldiers, Apocalypse Now, Casualties of War, the Deer Hunter, Hamburger Hill, and even a classic comedy/drama in Good Morning, Vietnam. There's also one called Tunnel Rats that I haven't seen yet that I'll definitely check out here sometime this week (time willing).
Obviously Vietnam isn't the only war popularly used in the movies. WWII is also a big one, as is the Civil War, the Revolutionary War and Pearl Harbor (just to name a few).
What are some war movies that moved you, stirred up emotions, gave you a lump in your throat, or even gave you a sense of patriotism or pride? Talk about that, and any other topic, in this there thread.
