OLD THREAD: The Unexplained and Supernatural (and general conversation).

Image
This is the thread you've all been waiting for! (Even though you could've discussed this topic at at any time.  🙄).  Myyysteries and the soooopernatural.....   Oogie boogie! There are so many categories of these types of things.  From mythological creatures such as Bigfoot, the Loch Ness Monster, Yeti, Chupacabra, etc, to aliens and UFOs, to unexplained physical and mental phenomena such as deja vu, a 6th sense, or near death experiences. One major category of the supernatural is hauntings, ghosts, and the paranormal.  These are not only the source of local folklore wherever you go in the world, but a major subject of interest in the film and television industry. So let's go down the rabbit hole, shall we?  Out of body experiences, reincarnation, mysterious disappearances, local hauntings or unexplained phenomena, whatever your choice may be, let's see who can tell the creepiest story that makes your skin crawl or even makes you question the wor...

Old Thread: Beans: A Versatile Superfood! And general discussion.

Image
Beans are considered a “superfood” because they are one of the most nutritious foods you can eat.   The site I got that quote from actually has a tremendously informative article about beans, so I won't try to outdo them.  Here's the link:   https://www.umassmed.edu/nutrition/Cardiovascular/handouts/beans/ One good thing about most beans - like kidney, black, lentils, or pinto, for example - is that you can cook them until they're soft enough and incorporate them into other dishes, like casseroles for instance. (Or just add them, in the case of green beans.) They're also used in drinks, coffee being the main one, and even everybody's favorite dessert flavors, chocolate and vanilla.  But why would somebody consider beans racist? Yes, I get that the name of the food, combined with "er", is a racially derogatory slur.  But other than that?  No. I even verified with a Google search, in case I missed the memo.  If you call somebody a bean "h...

Old Thread: Favorite (and least favorite) finishing move names. And, of course, general discussion.

Image
So I'm chit chatting during Collision, and this week's topic popped into my head after making a comment.  Finishing moves (or wrestling move in general).  More specifically the names.  Some finishing moves have great, catchy names that relate to the wrestler and the gimmick.  The one that first popped into my head was the Honky Tonk Man's Shake, Rattle, and Roll.  Catchy. Relevant. Fits. Another one is the Sharpshooter used by one Bret "The Hitman" Hart.  Sharpshooter because he's a hitman, natch. Skull Crushing Finale.  Rock Bottom. Stone Cold Stunner. Rude Awakening.  Avalanche (even though I don't know what an avalanche has to do with King Kong, it's a great name for the move). The Jackhammer. The Money Shot. Spinaroonie. Claymore. Perfect Plex.  I'll even concede the Pedigree. So the intro topic is simple. What finishers - or even regular moves in general - have your favorite names?  Or are your favorite moves in general? Which...

Old Thread: The Heart of Rock and Roll

Image
The heart of rock and roll is still beatin'!  At least in this person's mind. I love listening to old school music.  Namely the 80s.  I listen to it pretty much on a daily basis.  I like me some 90s, too, and some 60s and 70s, and early 2000s.   After that I pretty much tuned out with the exception of a fad hit here and there (What Does the Fox Say, Gangnam Style), or a recently discovered band that surprised me that I wound up enjoying (Blue October, Alestorm). But my go to is the 80s.  Pop, hip hop, hair bands, even a bit of country from that era (such as Eddie Rabbitt).  I can cue up some 80s and it just elevates my mood. So, the theme of the week is music.  Drop the YouTube of a song in the room and tell the story (if there is one) of why it means something and/or how you came across it.   From the mainstream to obscure gems, discuss and share some of your favorite tunes!

OLD THREAD: Movies! Oh, and general discussion, too.

Image
I've always loved movies and tv.  Escaping into another world, good prevailing over evil, emotion inducing action, drama, comedy, living vicariously through the characters and fantasizing about being in their shoes.  Sure, today's movies have amazing special effects and wouldn't have looked as good back in the day (LotR and super hero movies, in particular), but a lot of older movies possessed a level of heart and charm you just can't easily duplicate today. The list of classics from just the 80s are endless, some of which the series bled over into the 90s and beyond. The Breakfast Club, Lethal Weapon, Die Hard (a great Christmas movie!), Police Academy, Revenge of the Nerds, Back to the Future, Beverly Hills Cop, E.T., Planes, Trains, and Automobiles, Spaceballs, Ghostbusters, Disorderlies, Crocodile Dundee, St. Elmo's Fire, Stand By Me, Gremlins, Top Gun, Platoon, Full Metal Jacket, and so on. I could compile a list as long as Jericho's list of 1004 holds, bu...

(Old Thread): Casseroles (and other foodstuffs) and general discussion.

Image
So how many people love a good casserole? I just recently started appreciating a good casserole. They're filling, easy to cook, last a while, and you can incorporate more veggies into your diet by covering up their flavor with other, better tasting ingredients.  I came across a veggie casserole recipe.  It was good, but the kid didn't like the texture.  So then I tried a stuffing based casserole which went much better.  So I combined a couple recipes and tweaked it a bit with some other ingredients and came up with a pretty decent regular dinner fare. Here's the veggie casserole recipe: I didn't use bean sprouts. I substituted a can of mushrooms. I also used frozen California blend veggies, since it has both broccoli and cauliflower in it. I made other tweaks, like using a whole 10oz can of cream of mushroom/chicken and two eggs. I also mixed it all together in a bowl and put it in the casserole pan to cook vs layering.  Just make sure there's plenty of c...

(OLD THREAD) Night of the Living Thread: Now with more cowbell.

Image
Welcome to the new and improved Pandemonium in the Garden! Now with more cowbell! Accept no substitutes.  The people have spoken, and their voices were heard. There will be no separate watch party threads. Johnny Cocaine reiterated a point that I started thinking about more seriously, and that was the issue of interrupting conversation flow by moving to a different thread for a few hours.  I get it. My idea works better when it's a bigger site, where some people might want to stay and chat about general topics, and others might want to focus on the show they're watching. And since the traffic didn't exactly skyrocket right outta the gate, then errbody in the main thread was actually like minded and discussed all of the same things anyway. So here we are. One thread, fridge is in the mancave so you don't have to go to the kitchen for a beer, that sort of thing. The only separate thread will be for ppv predictions. So let's get this place back on track, moving f...
