OLD THREAD: Concerts! And General Discussion

Image
Well it's time to talk about concerts. Concerts are a great way to experience your favorite bands live. Or even check out local bands you might be curious about. There are so many genres and venues that I couldn't possibly list them all.  But I'll start with going into some of my personal experiences. My first "official" arena concert was the Ozzy Retirement Sucks tour.  I went to a couple before that when I was a kid, but they were family things at smaller venues. The Beach Boys twice (one of which I got on an amp and acted like I was surfing real quick which they got a kick out of.  Shoulda got a meet and greet for it).  Another was a Blessid Union of Souls concert at college, but that was also a small show. Since then, I've seen everything from Wayne Newton (seriously) to Pam Tillis (bday gift for a gf at the time so I toughed it out), to Iron Maiden.  I've seen Kiss, Kittie, ICP, Sevendust, King Diamond twice (Voodoo and Abigail 2015 tours; Exodus was...

OLD THREAD: Conspiracy Theories and General Discussion

Image
Well, it's time to throw on our tin foil hats and delve into the rabbit hole of conspiracy theories. Conspiracy theories usually involve some sort of outlandish explanation for some kind of situation or event.   A couple of official definitions are "a theory that explains an event or set of circumstances as the result of a secret plot by usually powerful conspirators" and "a theory asserting that a secret of great importance is being kept from the public".  Area 51, 9-11 conspiracies, the moon landing being faked, the New World Order, the JFK assassination, Elvis faking his death, Plum Island, Oak Island, and the Illuminati are some of the more popular ones. However, some conspiracy theories have ended up being true, such as the Business Plot and Watergate.  This is a link to a list of 11 conspiracy theories that ended up being true.  https://history.howstuffworks.com/history-vs-myth/11-unbelievable-conspiracy-theories-that-were-actually-true.htm So what a...

OLD THREAD: Anime Themes/Music and General Discussion.

Image
With the popularity of the anime thread, I figured I'd continue (milk) the momentum and do an anime theme song/music thread. Now this is a completely alien topic to me, so I had to do my due diligence in looking things up for this one.  I mean, sure, I could've been lazy and just thrown out the Pokémon theme, OG Transformers theme, Voltron, and a couple others all willy nilly, but you deserve better! Plus, since anime seems to have music steeped into the genre that is just as memorable as the stories themselves, I knew I had to at least look into some of the more popular ones (even if I didn't necessarily delve into listening to them myself).   So here are some of the top anime tunes (according to comicbook.com). 1) A Cruel Angel's Thesis: Evangelion 2) Idol (Oshi no Ko)  3) The Voltes V Song (Voltes V) 4) Unravel (Tokyo Ghoul) 5) Kick Back (Chainsaw Man) 6) Blue Bird (Naruto Shippuden) 7) SPECIALZ (Jujutsu Kaisen) 8) We Are! (One Piece) 9) Again (Fullmetal Alc...

OLD THREAD: Sitcoms! And General Discussion

Image
So this week we're gonna have some fun with sitcoms! You know, those lovely, mostly 30 minute, comedy gems that let you escape into a world of mishaps and shenanigans. Sitcoms are fun. I remember the days of watching things like Alf, Hogan's Heroes, Night Court, Who's the Boss, A Different World, the Cosby Show, Good Times, All in the Family, the Jeffersons, Sanford and Son, Cheers, Punky Brewster, Family Ties, The Facts of Life, Diff'rent Strokes, Happy Days, Golden Girls, Three's Company, then Married With Children, Seinfeld, the list goes on and on.  (Can't believe they didn't put Larry and Cindy on that box set. A travesty!)  You even have the animated ones, such as The Simpsons, Family Guy, South Park, Bojack Horseman, Archer, the list seems neverending. (Yes, I know I didn't mention Friends.  There. Happy now?)  There have been many great sitcoms over the years, some of which have tugged at your heart strings (like M*A*S*H*), and some that just ma...

OLD THREAD: Serial Killers and General Discussion

Image
So this week we're gonna dive into the disturbing world of serial killers. I'm not a serial killer "buff" by any means, but I do get into true crime, and I do watch some documentaries about them to see how twisted some people can actually be. I don't praise them or get infatuated with them like some weirdos out there do, like those chicks that write to them in prison wanting to marry them, or fanboys who obsess over them like they're some kind of role models, and sick crap like that.  Buncha disturbed, warped nutters. Regardless, they have gained a sort of "notoriety", and their cases have drummed up continued interest over the years.  Cannibalism, murder, rape, torture, confinement, abduction, you name it, all have been committed by one serial killer or another.  Some of the more infamous are Jeffrey Dahmer, John Wayne Gacy, Charles Manson, Ed Gein, the Zodiac Killer, the "Night Stalker" Richard Ramirez, and the Green River Killer Gary Ri...

OLD THREAD: Anime (sigh) and All General Discussion

Image
Well, the day has finally arrived.   This non-anime watcher is posting an anime thread. We have a number of anime watchers on the site, one of whom was introduced to it right'chere at PiTG, so I figured it was time to give 'em their own thread. Anime is a plentiful genre these days.  It was present in the 80s, gained traction in the 90s, and built from there, and it's pretty mainstream now.  There's even a disturbing amount of X-rated anime out there with a cult following behind it.  In the 80s you had things like Voltron and Robotech, and even Transformers and Gobots, and more, in the kids' arena.  But you also had things like the groundbreaking adult oriented Akira movie being released. The 90s saw things like Pokémon and Digimon and even the live action Power Rangers and more come to the forefront. You saw the anime influence becoming more prevalent.  Things like Ninja Scroll, Princess Mononoke, Cowboy Bebop, and Neon Genesis Evangelion and mo...

OLD THREAD: It's Time for a New Year! And General Discussion

Image
Well, it's time for the New Year's thread! Time to say goodbye to 2024 and welcome in 2025.  It's definitely going to be an interesting one, to say the least.  New Year's Day is another time of year with a special, magical feeling. It's a time to celebrate the previous year (or celebrating its end, depending on how it went), and the hopes and dreams that the new year might hold. It's a time for the traditional Times Square countdown and giant ball drop, as well as yet another reason to congregate and consume mass quantities of alcohol.  It is symbolically depicted by Father Time and Baby New Year, and represents the ushering in of a new year's dawn and the hope that better things are on the horizon.  It's also a time to make new year's resolutions in order to hopefully improve as a person. (I can think of a few people out in Disqusland who could use that kind of improvement.) Moving on, I would be remiss if I didn't address the elephant in the r...
