MAIN THREAD: Spinal Tap 41st Anniversary! and General Discussion
So, since it's the 41st Anniversary of the movie This is Spinal Tap (and since I just went and watched it on the big screen tonight. Score!) this week's thread is about one of my favorite cult classic flicks.
Oh, and also all the random insanity you crazy wackos post on a daily basis. 😆
David St. Hubbins (named after St. Hubbins, the patron saint of quality footwear), Nigel Tufnel (lead guitar! These go to 11!), Derek Smalls, Ian Faith, Marty DeBergi, and the rest of the wacky crew. All make up a great menagerie of characters that touch your hearts and tickle your funny bone.
Where else can you see Billy Crystal in a cameo as a mime, Paul Shaffer as Artie Fufkin of Polymer Records, and a pre-Nanny Fran Drescher among others?
For those who don't know, it's a "mockumentary" released in 1984, where a film crew follows around a UK rock/metal band on their North American tour which is full of comedic mishaps while on the road.
From cancelations, to a pod that doesn't open, to dwindling audiences, to a Stonehenge monument prop that doesn't quite live up to the enormity of the real thing, to getting lost under the stage and more, it's a great comedic flick.
Not only that, it spawned an actual album release and tour in the 90s (Break Like the Wind) with a couple musical guests, got them in an episode of the Simpsons, a Return of Spinal Tap follow up movie (which is filmed like a live concert), and is being followed up with Spinal Tap II: The End Continues in September.
If you haven't watched it, do so. But enough of my yakkin'. Let's boogie! Oh, and I guess chat and stuff, too.
