MAIN THREAD: Wrestling Across the Globe and General Discussion

I've talked about the 'Murican style of rasslin' a number of times here in the Garden, but pro wrestling is an intertational form of entertainment with roots all across the globe.

Of course the American pro wrestling companies are more of an expansive force in general, but many regions have their own ingrained histories in the industry as well with two of the main ones being Japan and Mexico.

Wrestling fans are at least slightly familiar with other area's styles (or at least know they're out there), while some other fans regularly follow their product.

Japanese pro wrestling is known for being "strong style", with a focus on a martial arts style of strikes and kicks and quite a bit of "stiff shots" (more forcefully connecting with one's opponent, for all you non fans) and, more recently a higher focus on Joshi wrestling (aka women's wrestling. You want a more detailed description, ask Bass; I'm not writing a novel here).

Mexican wrestling, in contrast, is noted mostly for Lucha Libre - flashy costumes and masks, aerial and acrobatic moves that are more obviously choreographed, and an overall faster paced match style.  There are some elements of that in other areas as well, but Mexico is most commonly associated with that type of presentation.

Other countries have differing looks and styles as well, but I'm not going into every one of them.  This is just a basic thread post, after all.  But I think you get the idea.
