OLD THREAD: Sports and all manner of general discussion.

Image
So this week I figured I'd just go ahead and get it over with, the topic of sports.  One thread, in general.  Sorry handegg obsessed, it don't get it's own thread.  Maybe for the Super Bowl.  Maybe.  Always remember, this is just a general topic suggestion and it's not set in stone.  Talk about what you will.  Sports are a major obsession for many.  Some people are content to simply watch the game and cheer on their team(s), some go a little farther and gamble on games and/or play fantasy versions of the games, while others go to the extreme and fight, attack players verbally and on social media, burn objects, riot, and so forth.  Sounds crazy, but hey, we have liberals doing the same over hats and pronouns, so wha' do I know? I used to watch (American) football (handegg) and collect sports cards when I was younger.  That was in the mid to late 80s. It was partly because of friends I knew being into it, but I'm glad I got into it t...

OLD THREAD: Books! And, of course, general discussion

Image
So the conversation direction led me to this week's general topic of books. Reminder: this is just the general blog topic.  Discuss anything else in the room as well.  With that little piece of business (oh noez, a certain lurker hates when I use that term... 😆) out of the way, on to the subject at hand. The importance of books really doesn't need much explanation. Whether it be works of fiction, informative, true life, whatever, the written word has been a staple of civilization and history for millenia, no matter the medium (tablets, scrolls, etc). Why, even at a young age we're taught (or used to be taught) the values of reading.  I used to read a lot more than I do now, but I still like to grab a good book from time to time. I also have a nice collection of tomes to dig into when the urge arises.  I also like to peruse magazines and comic books. One genre that I'm into is, naturally, pro wrestling autobiographies. Listening to the journey a certain person ...

OLD THREAD: Classic Cars and General Discussion

Image
Another week of conversation goodness is upon us, and for our old buddy Greg (or in memoriam, whichever the case may be) I'm doing a post about classic cars.  As always, this is a general topic of discussion, chat about whatever in the comment thread. I've always loved the visuals of classic cars, even though I'm not a full blown gearhead.  They definitely had a style and look that you don't get with today's generic looking vehicles. Sure, you may get an outlier or two, like the Hummer, Toyota FJ Cruiser, the New Bronco, those ridiculous looking Scion xBs and Nissan Cubes, PT Cruiser, Chevy HHR, that sort of thing, but even those have a streamlined look as well. Gone are the days of big pointy fins and rocket taillights, t tops, vent windows, hood ornaments, sealed beam headlights, door rub strips and wood side panels, etc. Now almost everything you see looks basically the same, with minor tweaks between manufacturers. Some modern features are nicer, such as power ...

OLD THREAD: Video games! And general discussion

Image
So this week's general thread topic is video games. We will just discuss them in general, from Pong to Minecraft, but I'm gonna add a question . If you had to pick only 10 games to play for the rest of your days, what would they be?  Moving on, video games have evolved at a fast pace over the years. I remember playing pong at a young age, and I was a big fan of Pac-Man, Qbert, Donkey Kong, Pitfall, Frogger, Asteroids, Night Stalker, Burgertime, Dig Dug, Moon Patrol, among others.  Later on, Zelda, Super Mario Bros, Street Fighter, Double Dragon, Gauntlet, Ninja Gaiden, Altered Beast, Castlevania, Rampage, Contra, Mike Tyson's Punch Out, WWF Wrestlefest, Sonic, PGA Tour '96 (yes, I played the shit out of this with my buddies), Mario Golf, stuff like that was my jam.  I got away from video games when first person shooters came around, specifically Goldeneye. I didn't like the change, so I gradually fazed out of the genre. I'd play a game here and there, but fo...

OLD THREAD: TRAVEL AND GENERAL DISCUSSION

Image
Pi$$maker had a great thread idea, and I'm gonna add just a little bit to it.  Travel experiences, favorite places to visit, and places you'd like to go. This should be a fun topic. Just remember this is only the general blog topic, discuss anything else as well. So I guess I'll start with a little of mine. My family and I have family in Chicago.  As a kid it was fun going to visit on vacation in the summertime every year.  Back then it was Santa's Village, Showbiz Pizza, downtown, Chinatown, White Castle, places like that. It's also where I had my only WWE ice cream bars, which I got from the classic ice cream truck.  Most recently, it was Florida.  I've always loved tropical themes when I saw them on tv and stuff.  Loved summer hated winter.  So when I visited Florida for the first time, I loved it but also hated that I waited so long to do it. It was my place, and I realized I'd always know it but never made it happen.  Now I'm determined...

OLD THREAD: Movie List and general discussion

Image
So I'm gonna adapt the concept of the last music thread to movies.  With a tweeest. So the idea is to come up with your top 20 ultimate movie and TV show list. You know, if stranded on a deserted island, or holed up in a bunker during nuclear armageddon, or if you could only pick 20 to watch for the rest or your life, blah blah blah.  Here's the twist.  You can name movie series. For example, if you say Lord of the Rings, Die Hard, Harry Potter, etc, that includes all the movies in that series.  For the tv shows, you get all seasons in that show. It does NOT mean you can say "Avengers" or "Infinity War" and get the whole MCU 1st wave. You could, however, say Captain America and get the First Avenger, Winter Soldier, and Civil War. In the case of something like Spider Man, you could pick which series of movies (Holland, Maguire, Garfield), or you could get them all. Same with Batman. But only the movies. If you pick the TV show, or the animated movies or sho...

OLD THREAD: Traveling Through History and any General Discussion

Image
So Bass came up with a good general concept to kick off the week.  Just remember, this is merely the blog discussion topic.  You can also talk about anything else (within reason). If you could travel back in time - GREAT SCOTT! - where would you go to?  What would you do? We're going to go with the premise that the Time Variance Authority would give everybody the same freebie up front, since the majority of people would go back to biblical times to see Jesus for whatever reason.  So that's a gimme, and everybody is given the opportunity to do that right out of the gate.  So, after that initial time hop, what eras or historical events would you go visit?  Just for fun, we'll start with a top 5 or 10, and then discuss from there (or else people will just say "everywhere"). We're also gonna say aging is slowed, so you could visit a place for more than just a short while if desired. Obviously this is just a guideline; if you think of any other tweaks just...
