MAIN THREAD: 1908 Rasslin' Footage and General Discussion

Image
So I needed a new topic since the recent thread has been up since 4th of July.  And what better topic than recently discovered and restored historic pro rasslin' footage from 1908 showing George Hackenschmidt vs Joe Rogers? This is a big deal in the rasslin' world. Never before seen, vintage footage of legends of yesteryear. It's also the only known surviving footage of Hackenschmidt wrestling in action.  Is the match itself entertaining by today's standards?  Not really.  But the historic significance is nothing to scoff at, regardless. Now I know what you non-rasslin' Gardenites are saying.  "Meh. So what? Why should I care?"  And I get it. If somebody found, let's say, previously unseen NASCAR footage, or video of some long forgotten Kentucky Derby horse race, I wouldn't be chomping at the bit (see what I did there?) to hunt it down.  However, I could still appreciate the historical significance of the find. And that's what's really imp...

OLD THREAD: Happy 4th of July and General Discussion

Image
'MURICA!  It's that time of year where people celebrate the good, ole USA by barbecuing, shooting off fireworks, wearing anything with the colors red, white, and blue, and drinking themselves into an incoherent stupor. The actual holiday, of course, also known as Independence Day, commemorates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, establishing the United States of America. It's a time for parades, loud chants, flag waving, guns, broads, beer, and all sorts of catchy - and also some annoying as hell - songs singing the praises of this land of the free and home of the brave. Unfortunately it's also time for those obnoxious ass ungrateful rainbow haired jackasses to whine and screech about how terrible the country that allows them to stay at home and not work is.  But I digress.  This year is also the 250th anniversary of this great country, another milestone in itself.  So let's get patriotic and hope it can last another 5 years at lea...

OLD THREAD: Memorial Day and General Discussion

Image
Well, it's Memorial Day time and I figured I'd actually write a new thread about it.  Just the basic history, etc, blah blah blah. Memorial Day, originally called Decoration Day, originated in the years following the American Civil War to honor fallen soldiers and was established as a time for the nation to decorate the graves of the war dead with spring flowers. Originally created to mourn only Union soldiers who died in the Civil War, the holiday was expanded after World War I to honor American service members who lost their lives in all conflicts. Although the day gradually came to be known as Memorial Day, it wasn't officially declared a federal holiday by an act of Congress until 1971 and the date of observance was moved from its traditional May 30 date to the last Monday in May. Fun fact: Inspired by the famous World War I poem "In Flanders Fields," professor Moina Michael championed the sale of silk and paper poppies to raise funds for disabled veterans, c...

OLD THREAD: Happy Easter! And General Discussion

Image
Hoppy - uh, I mean - Happy Easter!  It's finally that time of year when the coldness of winter will be replaced with the warmer rainy weather of Spring. It's also the time for pastel colors, baskets, colored eggs (racist!), and, of course, Jesus' resurrection.  Not to mention a giant rabbit trespassing in your yard to hide a bunch of those aforementioned diversely colored eggs instead of, let's see, just leaving them on your doorstep all nice and orderly in a pretty basket.  Dirty, rat bastard.  Oh, and mutha fuckin' Cadbury creme eggs! It's a time to celebrate life and rebirth, to scarf down Easter dinner, go to Easter Sunday service (For some, the one time of the year. Damn heathens.), and guzzle a shit ton of candy.   And you don't even have to dress up in a silly costume and go door to door begging for it.  Hell yeah!  No creepy ghouls and ghosts, no wrapped gifts, no hearts and lovey dovey stuff, no green beer, just a celebration of the...

OLD THREAD: Happy St. Patrick's Day! and General Discussion

Image
Well, it's March, and the time of year where everybody wears green and uses it as another excuse to get sloppy ass drunk. Yes, you guessed it, it's time for St. Patrick's Day! It's time for shamrocks, leprechauns, violating somebody by pinching them for not wearing green, McDonald's shamrock shakes, and drinking green colored beer. Honestly, I'm not quite sure how this became such a big holiday. I mean, I guess it's rooted in Christianity lore based on this summary from Google AI:  "St. Patrick’s Day commemorates Saint Patrick, a 5th-century Romano-British missionary who was kidnapped as a teenager and enslaved in Ireland. After escaping, he returned to convert the Irish to Christianity, using the shamrock to explain the Holy Trinity. He died on March 17, 461, and is the patron saint of Ireland." But still, it's wild to think a random story of hardship and suffrage, even though it ended in a positive, successful campaign, was singled out as a...

OLD THREAD: Happy Valentine's Day. And General Discussion

Image
Love is in the air and it's about that time for.....  Valentine's Day! I've always thought Valentine's Day was a nice holiday.  It celebrates love and the connection of two people who care for each other.  Sure, sometimes things don't always last past this magical day of the year, but hopefully the happy couples would have made a positive memory that they could look fondly back on.  Even when single I've always enjoyed this day of the year. It warmed my heart seeing two people walking around sharing love and affection for one another and showing that it's not always a lost emotion.  It would always make me smile. But there are also people who struggle during this, and other, times of the year, so here's to the lonely souls as well, and hoping they find something that can fill their hearts with joy.  Enough of my sappy, heartstring pulling sentiments, though.  It's time for discussing love, flowers, chocolates, memories (and even regrets or lesson...

OLD THREAD: MLK And General Discussion

Image
Since we're heading into Martin Luther King Day, I figured I would make the new thread about good ole Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. I've always subscribed to MLK's credo of unity and brotherhood amongst the races.  I'm all about that - about people treating people as people and judging them on their character, not the color of their skin. The belief that people, black and white (and all races), can sit at the table of brotherhood and sisterhood. Which is what King believed in. I'm also against racism in any form. Yes, that includes racism against Caucasians and, no, I don't need to hear the bs "minorities can't be racist" line because, globally, white people are the minority. Moving on.  With that out of the way, this is a thread about the good doctor, so let's get some quick bio info.  From Wikipedia: "Martin Luther King Jr. (born Michael King Jr.; January 15, 1929 – April 4, 1968) was an American civil rights activist and Baptist minister ...

OLD THREAD: IT'S A NEW YEAR, YES IT IS! and General Discussion

Image
Now that I have that out of my system, HAPPY NEW YEAR, ALL OF THE AMAZING PEEPS HERE AT PITG! So we're heading into 2026.  I'm sure some people are hopeful for a brand new year and brand new adventures, memories, successes, and so on and so forth.  Not to mention, the Japanese wrestling circuit is looking forward to Dream Queendom and Wrestle Kingdom events that are kicking off during this time.  You're welcome, Bass.  😆 But I'm also sure there are probably others who are worrying about what the new year holds.  Whether it be civil war, continued invasions, World War III, more tariffs, states sliding into the oceans, or the sky literally falling on our heads. Whatever the case may be, this is the time for celebrating another year on this crazy ass orb (yes, orb, not flat earth) and hoping it turns out better than the last. So what are people hoping for in the new year? What are you dreading?  What do you predict happening?  Talk about all that ...

OLD THREAD: MERRY CHRISTMAS! And General Discussion

Image
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! Um.......  I mean......   MERRY CHRISTMAS! We're 11 days away from the bestest holiday season of the year (fuck you, Halloween)! The time for peace on earth, good will towards men - and women - holly, mistletoe, Christmas carols (Mariah Carey doesn't count, hot dammit...), sleigh bells, Santa, Frosty, presents, tidings of comfort and joy, the whole damn shebang! There are even yuletide movies for the misfits.  Rudolph is the most obvious, of course, having the island of misfit toys, Hermie the dentist elf, Yukon Cornelius, and Bumble the abominable snowman. But you also have films such as A Christmas Horror Story, Fatman, Red One, and Violent Night, not to mention Nightmare Before Christmas (which was marketing genius because it's a dual holiday flick that capitalizes on and makes bank from both Halloween and Christmas), and many more. That's not even counting the classics such as Miracle on 34th Street, A Christmas Carol, A Christmas Story (me...

OLD THREAD: It's Officially December and General Discussion

Image
Well, the official holiday season is upon us, as it's now December 1st (as I started writing this; it's now the 2nd. But fuck ya all, it still works).  It's also a time where, generally, people consider it as "wintertime", even though the first day of winter isn't until December 21st. It's time to start thinking forward to thoughts of snow, skiing, sweaters, sitting in front of the fireplace, and mindlessly fighting people in the stores for the newest fad product on the market just in time for Christmas. So how about we start the month out by talking about your favorite things about winter (ugh), December (Christmas, obviously), and anything else about the end of 2025 and what you're looking forward to (or afraid of happening) in 2026?  Oh, and talk about anything else you want, of course.
